The Queen pageant: consists of young ladies competing for the
title of "Miss Fiesta Hispano Americana" The contestants draw
for a Latin American country which they represent during the entire Fiesta Hispano Americana pageants. These countries include: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, & Colombia. Three other countries are Spain, Cuba, & the United States of America. The Queen pageant consists of two Fiesta Hispano Americana events.
The Fiesta Ball is a formal event. The contestants, in formal gowns, recite speeches in front of those in attendance. Their speeches will include a little about themselves, a thank you toward their sponsor(s) and a greeting for the attendees. The contestants recite their speech in both languages; English & Spanish. The contestants are then asked for a response to one "Current Event" question. The Fiesta Ball is held every fourth Saturday in August.
The Fiesta Street Festival is the final event held in Downtown Wharton TX. Queen contestants, in advance, have researched their country's capital, population, history, cultural life, arts, agriculture, commerce, industry, economy, and traditions including the types of dresses worn by the local women. The contestants buy fabric and a local seamstress makes an authentic dress that represents their country. The young ladies recite a new speech about the dress they are wearing and their country's customs & traditions. This speech is also recited in both languages; English and Spanish..
The Fiesta Queen is selected by a point system between Raffle ticket sales, Fiesta Ball judging, & Fiesta Street Festival judging. Five judges look for appearance, poise, personality & speech presentation. The five judges are different from the Fiesta Ball to the Fiesta Street Festival as to give the contestants additional oppurtunities to impress the judges. Finally, before the new Miss Fiesta Queen is crowned, the outgoing Miss Fiesta Queen must recite a speech and tell of her wonderful year as Queen. The City of Wharton's mayor is invited to crown the new Fiesta Queen each year. The Street Festival is held every second Saturday in September.
Little Miss Fiesta contest winner is selected solely on "Most Raffle Tickets Sold". One (1) vote per ticket.
